Our goal is to increase the awareness of the quality of Independent
Artist music by bring exposure to the top artists.  We believe you

artist paying up to $500 for their music to sit on a shelf?
That we do not have the answer to.

A Campaign And Contest For The Best Protest Music Videos

On April 17, 2006, Justice Through Music, www.jtmp.org, a non-profit
that works with famous bands to inspire people to support civil rights,
launched a new campaign called 'Harmony Vids!' to motivate artists,
http://www.myspace.com/harmonyvids). JTM is looking for videos
that make a cultural statement, have staying power, and will result in
a change in consciousness.

In the first category, JTM will post a few dozen protest songs from the
band Op-Critical, and whoever makes the best video of each song will
win at least a $500 prize, and the video will be featured on the JTM
front page, submitted to film festivals and cable TV, placed in a
Harmony Vids! DVD, included in press releases, and played on many
Internet sites, cool blogs and news sites where they will be viewed by
millions of people.

The second category will be for bands which submit their own music
videos, and the same prizes noted above will be awarded for first place
in the following categories: rock, urban, country, and other. Prizes
will only be awarded if there are multiple submissions for each song or
band category.

The first Op-Critical video, "Ornament," was filmed at Arlington
National Cemetery, and is now available for viewing.

Protest songs can be about the war, politicians, the environment,
fascism, lies, fear, the military and all civil rights related topics.
JTM will post all videos submitted as long as they are good quality.

Isaac Johnson Interview

Filed under: Uncategorized — rephot @ 10:35 pm

Hello Isaac. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with us.

HB: What inspired you to become a singer song writer?

IJ: I think in someway it felt necessary for me as a person. I've always believed in the power of words and even more so of music. Once I had the tools for both I felt like I had something to say.

HB: When did you start playing guitar?

IJ: Growing up without alot of money I wasn't able to afford my first guitar until I was 18. I started playing then

HB: Do you find it hard to follow your dreams of a music career?

IJ: Yeah I think it's like that for anything that we strongly desire in life. I think the majority of people that don't "make it" are the ones who gave up on their dream. I think I have what it takes and have no plans to throw in the towel so to speak.

HB: Do you have a lot of support from your loved ones?

IJ: I'm pretty sure my mom is my biggest fan.

HB: In your opinion do you feel your location helps you pursue your music career?

IJ: Possibly, LA seems to be a place where there are a lot of opportunities but no matter how many opportunities come up if you're not prepared it wouldn't matter where you lived.

HB: Have you ever felt like giving up on having a career in music?

IJ: I have as a passing thought but the thought of life without music is honestly pretting devastating. I feel like I need to be creative in order to have some sort of sanity. I think everyone deals with some sort of doubt even if only briefly.

HB: What do you do to get back on track?

IJ: Drink….just kidding I'm always trying to set goals for myself daily so that I don't feel like I'm ever off track. I make sure that I do something everyday that will further my career

HB: How would you describe your music style?

IJ: It's all rock and roll to me

HB: Your getting ready to release your first album. How did you know you were ready to take this important step?

IJ:Other than desiring to have a completed work finished I really wanted to get something in peoples hands that they could take home with them.

HB: What was your mind set going in to record your album?

IJ:The song is king. No matter how cool a guitar lick may or may not be if it doesn't give the song a flow then it doesn't belong there. I've always admired music that was more about expression rather than virtuosity. I could care less about something sounding cool if it doesn't speak to me or you.

HB: Who did you work with on your album?

IJ: Jeremy Yeremian produced the album and we hired a drummer and bass player to sit in for the band sessions.

HB: How do you feel about your completed album?

IJ: We're in the mixing and mastering phase right now. It feels very exciting right now almost like I'm about to give birth or something. Not that I would know what that was like or anything…

HB: What is your favorite song on the album? And Why?

I don't know that I have a favorite but "New Bike" is probably the closest to my heart. It's about the relationship I had with my father growing up and how I cope with it as an adult

HB: What is some advice you would give to other artists?

IJ: I was always told that a good musician/artist should listen to alot of music and probably even listen more you play.

HB: When is your album going to be released?

IJ: The official statement from Vital Recordings as of right now is Spring 2006

HB: Again thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Is there anything you would like to add?

IJ: Ummmm….only that I will marry anyone who buys one million copies the album…unless you're a dude then I'll probably just buy you a beer or something

Who Is Heather Burke?

Filed under: Personal and Blogging — rephot @ 11:52 pm

Me with the guys from Double DriveI

I got several emails from people wanting to know more about me. So as a slave to the grind I feel it is my duty to fill you all in.

I'm originally from Mystic Island, NJ but now live in Kissimmee,FL. I'm a 28 year old single parent of a very rocking little boy. Music has been my passion from a very young age. Back when your music collection was all vinyl. But with the time your vinyl became cassettes and your cassettes became CDs. I'm sure it is only a matter of time until CDs are a thing of the past and MP3s rule supreme. But until that time I'm going to continue to add to my ever growing CD collection.

Some other things that I love are movies, sports, and outdoors. Which is why I couldn't set boundaries when I was building this site. You wont find just music but wrestling, actors and everything in between! I hope this helps to answer some of your questions and see you all at REP.

merch, and getting out there.
At the Philadelphia conference, Gilli Moon, Toni Koch and Roxanne Kiely
(Director of Operations Australia, conducting a Vocal workshop) will be
speaking.

A few Panels and Workshops at IMC Dallas that include Songsalive! staff:

* PANEL: Digital Delivery… It's A Reality!
(Neil Sheehan, Gilli Moon, Richard Gabriel, Noel Ramos-Moderator)
Digital delivery is a reality. Now we are seeing how it is affecting the
market. Even in the short time that we have been utilizing this new
distribution method, it has already morphed considerably.  Podcasting,
ring-tones, digi-singles, sound tracks, and other digital marketplaces
have already expanded this brand new opportunity. This panel will be a
cutting edge discussion of these critical developments.  Topics will
include protection of intellectual property rights, digital distro
deals, and the state of the emerging digital delivery market.

* PANEL: Street Teaming and Buzz Building
(Ducado Vega, Susan Crandall, Neil Sheehan, Terry Coughlin, Don DeBiase,
Toni Koch-Moderator) Members of the promotional side of the market will
discuss the importance of incorporating a serious street teaming effort
into your overall indie marketing efforts.  Methods for attracting
street teamers, rewarding them, managing the program and brainstorming
other new promotional ideas will be highlights.

* PANEL: Indie Booking and Touring
(Toni Koch, Ducado Vega, Susan Crandall, Gilli Moon-Moderator) Many
Indies realize the importance of watching their budget and utilizing DIY
methodology for their booking and touring efforts.  But what's the point
of touring?  This panel takes it to the next level. Maximize your
effectiveness: gig-swapping, interviews, airplay, promotion, retail.
Time is precious and touring is a massive undertaking; learn to tie in
all the critical elements. These experienced road warriors will help you
make the most of your efforts.

Some of the Workshops -

* MPWR Workshop – Artist Empowerment (Gilli Moon)
Define success on your own terms… professional artist development,
staying motivated, how to develop the right relationships, marketing and
promotional tools, and overcoming
obstacles.  Gilli Moon hosts an MPWR (empower) Workshop to motivate you
beyond creativity, into the business world of the Professional Artist.
This workshop will help you take the next step with your artistry -
guiding, motivating, encouraging and providing tools, tips and solutions
to take your artistry into the world of the entertainment industry. Plus
tips on indie promotional and marketing strategies to put philosophy
into practice.

* Looking for Press in All the Right Places (Noel Ramos)
Noel has published a music magazine for 20 years. He'll relate his
experiences and results of surveys he's conducted with media peers. What
grabs their attention? What convinces them to print one band's story
over another? What do booking agents like to see? What else should you
keep in mind? Has the advent of EPKs changed things? These answers and
more from the perspective of those you want to target. Examples of press
kits will be shown, and a free hand-out of Noel's 7-page "Press Kit
Primer" will also be available for all workshop attendees

* * * *  THE SONGSALIVE! SONGCAMP * * * *

Subject: Publik Music

As a independent woman musician I am always looking for new sites that
promote indie music. Check out www.publikmusic.com. It is a really
cool site that features new, young, upcoming artists as well as more
established ones. I was even surprised by one or two of the artists
featured–didn\'t know they were still around! ALL the music is good!
Check out the videos for each artist–performance and interviews
together. Really well done!! I believe there is a Publik Music cable
channel in the Austin TX area. I haven\'t seen that–but the site is
sweet. I do believe that bands can contact them for consideration too.
Check it out!
